What better way to work on a project -- much less an album -- than in the comfort of your home? For singer/songwriter the-Dream, signed to Warner Chappell publishing, that's exactly where he laid the ground work for "Love King," which will be released via Radio Killa/Def Jam Records (preorder here now).
"It started in my basement at my house in Atlanta, dubbed the Nash Estate, which is where I actually worked on Ciara's 'Ride' and Rihanna's 'Rockstar 101'," he recalls about the album, which he began working on this January

The recording efforts quickly shifted over to Miami, and the entire songwriting process -- alongside the album's producers and songwriters Carlos "Los Da Mystro" McKinney and Christopher "Tricky" Stewart -- lasted about two weeks. The mixing of the album then kicked off in February, and because of Dream's hectic schedule, which included performing shows and working with other artists on their projects, took about "three to four months to complete, but I killed it," he says.
In order to bring attention to the album and its title, Dream opted to release the title track as the first single; the song has reached No. 92 on the Hot 100 and No. 26 on the R&B/Hip-Hop Songs charts so far. Second single, "Make Up Bag," featuring T.I., is currently at No. 64 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and the recently released buzz track "Turnt Up" is making rounds on the internet.
The-Dream isn't a stranger to the higher pinnacle of the Billboard charts -- previous single "Shawty Is A 10," from his 2007 "Love Hate" debut, landed at No. 17 on the Hot 100 and No. 6 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songcs chart. "Rockin' That Thang" from "Love Vs. Money," his 2009 follow-up, peaked at No. 22 on the Hot 100, and No. 2 on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs.

Although he is mum about the details to any potential upcoming tour, Dream did reveal one of the people he's hoping to open up for in coming months is rapper T.I. "I would love to go up with TIP -- both of the Kings on stage. It would be pretty big," he boasts.
In addition to working on the last album of the "Love" trilogy, and working with others like Ciara, Rihanna, J. Lo and Jamie Foxx, the-Dream is also delving into movies. "I figure, if I can write a hit record in three minutes, then maybe I can write a hit movie in a decent amount of time too," says Dream, who is teaming up with producer Dallas Austin and actor Jason Weaver for the venture.
Dream has expressed intrest in buying an ownership stake in the Atlanta Hawks basketball team and his "Millionaire" cigar bar in Atlanta will be opening up soon in Buckhead. Dream will also start working on his merch.
